HC directive on action against KSRTC staff
THE HINDU, DECEMBER 04, 2018

KOCHI: Plea against flash strike on October 16

A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Monday directed the Chairman and Managing Director of the KSRTC to consider and pass appropriate orders in a month on a representation seeking to take action against the workers who went on a flash strike on October 16. The directive was passed while disposing of a writ petition filed by the Centre for Consumer Education, Pala.

According to the petitioner, the joint council of trade unions went on a lightening strike for nearly four hours on October 16, leaving many passengers stranded at various KSRTC depots.

Kudumbashree contract

The strike was organised in protest against the awarding of a contract to the Kudumbashree Mission. The petitioner said the workers had violated the fundamental rights of the passengers by going on a flash strike.

It had also caused revenue loss to the KSRTC.

The petitioner sought a directive to the KSRTC CMD on taking action against the employees who went on strike.

Illegal strike

The KSRTC in its affidavit submitted that the strike was unjustified and illegal. The employees who participated in the strike and those who declared the strike were liable for disciplinary action.

They were not eligible for the wages of the strike period and their salary would be deducted. In fact, the corporation was awaiting a reply to its letter in this regard from the State government.
