Income Tax Department Alert: Send SMS to complete this important task before March 31
Zee Business, March 23, 2019

Income Tax returns filing date is near and so is the date of linking PAN card with Aadhaar. If you have not linked your PAN with Aadhaar yet, you must do it as soon as possible and should not wait for the deadline. The Income Tax Department in a Twitter post to taxpayers has asked them to link their PAN with Aadhaar. The department has said it time and again that linking PAN with Aadhaar is mandatory and the deadline is March 31. If you don't link these two documents by March 31, the PAN card will be treated as cancelled. Income Tax Department has shared some tips to link the PAN with Aadhaar.

Linking PAN with Aadhaar using SMS
To ease the linking of PAN with Aadhaar, the Income Tax Department has provided an option to the taxpayers for linking Aadhaar and PAN via SMS. All you have to do is to type 'UIDPAN' <12-digit Aadhaar> <10-digit PAN> to 567678 or 56161. For example, type UIDPAN 123450006789 ABCD1234E and send to the given number. Here, 123450006789 is Aadhaar number and ABCD1234E is PAN number.

Linking PAN with Aadhaar online
You can link PAN with Aadhaar online as well. For this, you will have to visit the Income Tax Department's official website -incometaxindia.gov.in. Follow these steps:

* If you are not registered on the site, you should first create your account by registering on the portal incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.

* Now login and click on the 'Link Aadhaar' option in profile settings

* Fill in all your details and the captcha code.

* Click on the 'Link Aadhaar' option at the bottom of the page. You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number. Fill the OTP and submit for linking the documents.

If you are still unsure, then keep in mind that if you don't link your Aadhaar with PAN, then your PAN will be considered invalid and you won't be able to file ITR.
